SUMMER/FALL MARCHING BAND LETTER – August and September dates to be added soon.

As we make final preparations to perform for around a million people in Ireland in the coming month it is time to start planning for the LSHS Summer Marching Band season ahead of us. The letter above contains information about rehearsals and performances. I am confident this summer will be thoroughly enjoyable for all students involved as we perform at parades in the Twin Cities metro area. Parade acceptance is not granted until early in the summer, but I expect the schedule shared below will be very close!

While summer marching band is voluntary for LSHS band members, I encourage all to participate even if you have to miss a performance(s)/rehearsal(s) due to summer travel. Marching band can be scary if you haven’t done it before due to the unknown, but it is my experience that most end up loving marching band and the activity creates a sense of family among the kids.

***New for Fall 2018…

Fall Marching Band – The Lakeville South Band program consists of 3 concert bands and a jazz ensemble which rehearse during the school day. In the past, all 3 concert bands combined to make the fall marching band at football games. In the 2018-19 school year, only those who sign up for fall marching band will perform at the home football games. This band will learn a show made to be performed in competition and at home football games. As you will notice on the schedule below, each summer practice ends with an hour Fall Marching Band rehearsal for learning and memorizing music. There is also a Fall Marching Band camp week at the end of July. During camp week, lunches will be provided for the group. There will be a $100 registration fee for Fall Marching Band; this fee will help pay for lunches, staff, bussing, and football game dinners. The rest of the cost will be covered by donations to keep the cost lower so all can participate (if you know a person or company willing to donate please let me know and I will pass their information on to our fundraising chair, we need about $7,000 in donations/fundraising to make the season happen). I have created the schedule with those students in mind who participate in fall sports, as many desire to be in both a sport and marching band. I realize there will be some conflicts, but I have tried to keep them to a minimum so that all who want to be involved have the opportunity to be successful! If you are concerned about a conflict, talk to Mr. Bieniek about your schedule to explore options to make it work. I am really looking forward to the product this band will create. The Waseca competition is full day event on Saturday, September 22nd. I am also looking into adding a competition performance this year at US Bank Stadium on Saturday, October 13.

Future Dates – In the near future I will communicate our August and September rehearsal dates for Fall Marching Band. The fall football game dates are: Thursday, August 30, Friday, September 7, Friday, September 21 and Friday, October 12. Our final marching band performance will be the Indoor Marching Band Concert tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 27th.
