Congratulations to the Lakeville South Jazz Ensemble for being accepted to perform at the 2019 Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Midwinter Clinic! The performance is scheduled for Thursday, 2/14/2019 at 2:15 PM in Room 205 of the Minneapolis Convention Center. This is one of the highest honors a high school band can receive!
Many applications for performance were submitted this year. The students, alumni, school and community at large should be extremely proud of being accepted. Congratulations to all!
The band will perform a fourty-five minute set including the world premier of Dean Sorenson’s new composition “The Beautiful Ones.” Dean Sorenson is director of jazz studies at the University of Minnesota and a highly sought after jazz composer and clinician around the world. He also happened to be Mr. Bieniek and Mr. Castonguay’s jazz professor when they attended the University of Minnesota. When Bieniek and Castonguay attended the U of M, Sorenson had a young daughter and now Bieniek and Castonguay both have young daughters. This new piece is dedicated and inspired by the love fathers have for their Beautiful Ones.
Please come out on Valentines Day to see the band and support the music our Lakeville musicians are making! All are welcome! Admission is free if you print out the ticket(s) linked below. Just show the full page or a single ticket and you will be admitted without paying the conference fee.
